Beginner’s Guide to Vaping CBD Oil

One of the more popular ways to take CBD is through vaping CBD oil. This method can create a certain amount of confusion—and raise a lot of questions.

Vaping CBD oil has different results than other methods. It is the fastest way to get the CBD into your bloodstream, which makes it a popular choice for people who are suffering from anxiety or need immediate pain relief. That instant effect makes it easier to adjust the dosage compared to sublingual drops, capsules or edibles, which only adds to its popularity.

Here’s a look at some of the common questions surrounding CBD vaping.

Why Does Vaping Work So Quickly?

When you vape, the liquid is absorbed into the lungs and goes directly into your bloodstream. When you consume CBD oils orally, it has to go through the digestive system and the liver before reaching the bloodstream, which not only makes it take longer to take effect, but also decreases the bioavailability.

Since the vaping process allows it to bypass the liver, the bioavailability is much higher and the effects of it kick in much faster – as much as 40 to 60 minutes faster than other methods.

Is Vaping CBD Oil Bad for My Lungs?

One of the big concerns raised about standard vaping is the damaging effect of some of the chemicals used in the vaping liquids.

Typically, the biggest concern is about propylene glycol (PG) which is used to thin the oil and works with the heated electronic coils to help deliver the liquid through the pen. Concerns about PG include research showing it breaks down into formaldehyde and acetaldehyde, both of which are known to cause cancer.

The alternative is to use oil made with vegetable glycerine (VG), which is considered safe and doesn’t have known side effects.  However, PG has to be used to dissolve CBD isolate into VG, which is why so many products offer a PG/VG mix. Products that are VG only are not CBD isolate, but are full spectrum extracts.

Educate yourself as to what you need from your oil and see which type of product and delivery method is best for you.

Can I Vape the CBD Oil Sublingual Drops?

People commonly ask if they can vape regular CBD oil drops or tinctures. The answer is a resounding no. Those are intended only for oral (i.e., sublingual) use.

“Regular” CBD oil drops have carrier oils that can be harmful to you if you try to vape them. If you are wanting to purchase a CBD oil product to vape, be sure to purchase one that clearly says it is a CBD vape oil or liquid.

What Do I Look For in a CBD Oil Vape Pen?

You have many choices out there today, which can complicate the buying process. Always research the brands you’re interested in buying; some manufacturers are using unsafe materials in their coils, such as potentially dangerous metals. Look for product reviews on sites that you trust.

In general, the most important feature to look for is temperature control or wattage control. This allows you to choose the temperature at which the CBD oil evaporates and vaporize, and it allows you to choose the kind of vaping experience that is most enjoyable for you.

Since other cannabinoids and terpenes evaporate at different temperatures, a good temperature control is also valuable because it lets you vaporize other products.

How Do I Find A Vape Pen That’s Right For Me?

There are several things to consider when buying a vape pen, but some of the biggest factors are going to be size, complexity and battery life. Perhaps you want a slim, portable device, or maybe you’re interested in a more complicated device with screens and a variety of settings. The more complicated the device, the larger and more powerful it tends to be.

To determine which one is right for you, think about when and where you’ll use it, how well you understand how it works, and how much battery life you  expect from it.

Still need help? We recommend that beginners visit a vape shop near them for help in choosing a vape pen or mod. The employees of local vape shops are typically very educated and helpful to people who are new to vaping.

How Much Maintenance Does My Vape Pen Require?

Vape pens don’t require a great deal of maintenance, but the coils will require some attention. Coils need to be changed regularly, as they can get clogged. In some cases, they may get burnt and that can affect the flavor and your overall vaping experience. How often you need to change them depends on your usage, the quality of the device itself and the CBD vape liquid you’re using.

What Should I Avoid When Buying a Vape Pen?

Do not buy any pens that use glues or adhesives; when the pen heats up, you’ll be inhaling those toxic vapors. Also, and pens made with metals like lead should be avoided entirely. As a rule, if the pen’s price is super cheap, so is it’s quality, and you’ll do better to spend more to get a better product.

Finally, know what you’re buying and who you are buying from. In some cases, products marketed as CBD vape oil contained other substances that had negative effects on users. It’s important that you evaluate who you are buying from and only purchase CBD vape oils from companies that you trust.
