Dosing By Drops Can Be Less Accurate
It’s commonly said that 20 drops of oil are equal to 1 milliliter, but that's not always the case. You can test this yourself by taking a variety of droppers and counting out the drops. We have found that the number of drops per milliliter can vary anywhere from 20 drops all the way up to 55 drops. Even when a company explicitly states how many drops are in their droppers, there can be discrepancies. One bottle may be 25 drops per dropperful while another may be 30 drops in a full dropper.
CBD oil drops can have concentrations as high as 5 milligrams of CBD per drop. So discrepancies in drop counts can cause someone to take considerably more or less than they intended. While some users are not concerned about exact dosing, there are many who are. It can be a struggle to find your optimal dose of CBD oil, especially when you’re basing your dosing off the suggestions of others. Doubly so when they may not be taking as much as they think or more than intended.
CBD Oil Dosing by Milliliter
Dosing by milliliter can be both easier and more accurate way to measure your cbd oil dose. To dose by milliliter, just divide the total number of milligrams of CBD by the number of milliliters in the bottle. This tells you the number of CBD milligrams per milliliter. For example, a 30ml bottle with 1000 milligrams of CBD has 33.3 milligrams of CBD per ml. If 33 milligrams is your desired dose, you know that you will get that by taking one milliliter of the product.
The CBD oil drops of some brands include graduated droppers with markings to help you measure milliliters. If your product has a graduated dropper, then you should be able to trust those measurements. Otherwise, you can separately purchase a graduated dropper or calibrated oral syringe. Dosing by milliliter can help you can get a more precise dose every single time you take it.
Graduated droppers and calibrated oral syringes can often by found at your local pharmacy. Some pharmacies will even give them to you for free. You can also find them for purchase on Amazon and other online marketplaces.
Another Tip for More Precise Dosing
Another thing to make note of is how much CBD per milliliter your oil actually contains instead of what’s advertised. This can be achieved by asking the brand for third party lab reports for your specific batch. Because of the nature of the hemp plant, the cannabinoid profile can vary ever so slightly from batch to batch. While the brand advertises 50mg per milliliter, one batch may be 48mg per milliliter and the next 52mg per milliliter. This isn’t a huge deal but will help you keep track for the purpose of exact dosing.
