Best CBD Bath Bombs – Buyer’s Guide for 2020

Given its growing popularity, it’s really no surprise that CBD is finding its way into common bath products. CBD bath bombs are increasingly showing up in the product lines of major brands and in local stores.

But do they really deliver on the promise to take your bath experience to the next level? What are they and what benefits can you expect? In this article, we’ll answer the most frequently asked questions about CBD bath bombs. We also list the brands that users have rated as the best CBD bath bombs. Lastly, we’ve included a recipe if you’d like to try making them yourself at home.

What are CBD Bath Bombs?

When it comes to relaxation, perhaps nothing beats soaking in a hot bath. In fact, studies show that routinely immersing yourself in a hot bath has a number of health benefits on its own. These include reducing stress, relieving pain and improving skin conditions.

Bath bombs were first invented in 1989 and were inspired by the fizzing action of Alka-Seltzer tablets. The main ingredients in bath bombs are citric acid and baking soda. When dropped into in a bathtub of water, they fizz and dissolve. Essential oils and other ingredients create an aromatherapy experience that is designed to soothe your skin and help you relax.

The idea of adding CBD, or cannabidiol, to bath bombs is a relatively recent one. As the topical application of cannabis products began gaining popularity, CBD-infused bath bombs started making their appearance. The combination of the therapeutic benefits of hot baths and bath bombs with the potential benefits of CBD is certainly a logical one.

What are the Potential Benefits?

As with any CBD product, the benefits of CBD bath bombs are different depending on the individual. We were a little skeptical ourselves so we literally went through hundreds of user reviews. The consensus was overwhelmingly positive.

Users most often rave about their great smell, skin conditioning properties and effectiveness in promoting relaxation and sleep. Relief from joint and muscle discomfort is another common theme based on user feedback.

Do CBD Bath Bombs Really Work?

Based on user reviews, CBD bath bombs have shown the potential to enhance the known benefits of taking a relaxing hot bath. These include things like added relief from stress, mild anxiety and muscle discomfort. They will also leave your skin feeling nourished and smelling great.

How much of the benefits come from the addition of CBD is subject to some debate. CBD is fat-soluble so without an emulsifier, much of the CBD will float on the surface of the bath water. Some people also point out that the CBD is also being diluted in a bathtub full of water and doesn’t enter your bloodstream. But others swear by them and firmly believe that they help take their bathing experience to the next level.

CBD bath bombs are intended to help with conditions that would benefit from topical use. So while they can certainly have some added benefits, you shouldn’t expect that they will address more chronic conditions.

Ultimately, the question of whether CBD bath bombs really work depends on your goals and expectations. It’s best to think of them as a way to heighten the benefits of a hot bath rather than as a solution on their own. If you’re looking to use CBD for its therapeutic effects, you’ll probably be better off with the traditional tinctures or CBD topicals.

How Long Should You Soak in a CBD Bath Bomb?

For the best results, you should soak in a bath with a CBD bath bomb for at least 30 minutes. This will be enough time for the CBD-infused bath water to absorb into your skin and enjoy the full effects of the product. While this is a guideline for the minimum amount of time to soak, it certainly doesn’t hurt to stay in the tub longer. Some users report spending an hour or more relaxing in a hot bath to achieve maximum relaxation. So just sit back and enjoy your bath for as long as you’d like!

How to Make CBD Bath Bombs at Home

Making your own CBD bath bombs is easier than you might think. By making your own, you can save money and customize them for your specific needs. The recipe below calls for 100 milligrams of CBD but you can use as much as you’d like to achieve your desired potency.

The number of bath bombs that will be produced using the recipe below will depend on the size of your molds. So just multiply the amount of CBD in milligrams that you’d like to have in each one by the number of bath bombs made to determine how much CBD to add.

Ingredients Needed:

  • 1/2 cup citric acid
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup epsom salt
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons almond oil or melted coconut oil
  • 3/4 tablespoon water
  • 12-15 drops scented essential oils
  • Bath bomb molds
  • 100mg of CBD oil drops or isolate powder

CBD Bath Bomb Recipe Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together all of the dry ingredients (citric acid, baking soda, epsom salt and cornstarch)
  2. Use a whisk to combine the dry ingredients.
  3. In a separate small bowl, mix together the wet ingredients (almond or coconut oil, water and essential oils)
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ones very slowly. It’s important to go slow so you don’t activate the citric acid that creates the fizzing effect.
  5. Mix until combined and the mixture look like wet sand.
  6. Carefully fill each half of the mold with the combined ingredients.
  7. Add the CBD oil or isolate powder to the top of one half of the molds. Pack the mixture in slightly until it’s overflowing.
  8. Press the halves together firmly and let the filled molds sit for 24 hours.
  9. Lightly tap the mold and gently pull it apart to remove the bath bombs.
  10. Enjoy your homemade CBD bath bombs in the tub!
